he Calumet River and Harbor area is a 100% fully developed industrial area, with large
manufacturing facilities that are fenced with restricted access. The project area also
included 12,000 feet of pier and rock breakwater in Lake Michigan. This created a special
requirement to design a flight line pattern to cover the project area while minimizing the
placement of mapping control points on private land and providing suitable stereoscopic coverage
of the breakwater structure
Aerial targets (12) were placed on the breakwater structure prior to the aerial photo
mission and photo identifiable control points (31) were selected for the landward area of the
project. A primary control network based upon static GPS observations was processed and for QC
positions were confirmed using independent OPUS solutions. Mapping control was then propagated from
the network using differential GPS positioning. Monument documentation, Field Notes, Field Books and
survey adjustment were provided electronically.
ABGPS and IMU data were processed using GRAFNav and POS-PAC, scans were made using a Vexcel
UltraScan5000, and AT was performed using ISAT and Pat-B.
Large scale 1"=50' mapping with 1' contours were compiled using digital softcopy workstations
(SocetSET and SSK’s) using stereo compilation and DTM. Mapping was delivered in MicroStation V-8
design files, DTM was delivered in InRoads and ArcTIN compatible ASCII files.
Cultural data was added to the mapping (names of roads, street, rivers, creeks) using ArcGIS.
Digital ortho imagery was produced in color with 6" pixels in TIFF and SID files. Meta data produced
using CORPSMET 95.QC included independent field surveys of photo identifiable features.
ACASS Overall Rating "VERY GOOD" ACASS Comments: "Contractor provided aerial photos in both TIFF
and MrSID format, even though the later was NOT included in the SOW. This was much appreciated."
