The Arizona Department of Transportation contracted with Western Air Maps, Inc.
(WAM) to provide Color Aerial Photography of 103 Airports throughout the State.
The project required a rapid mobilization to get the aerial photos taken before the
seasonal haze and forest fire season began.
WAM mobilized our Piper Navajo Twin from our base in Kansas, and all photography was
acquired in one deployment over the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend, 2003.
WAM knowledge of the fire season and commitment to the project was instrumental in the timely
completion of the project. Immediately after completion of the flights, a series of forest fires
began that lasted over 60 days; these fires created conditions that would have prohibited the
acquisition of aerial photography.
All 105 airfield locations were pre-planned and loaded in the Track AIR flight management system.
The flight management system planned the most efficient route for the 105 waypoints.
The color aerial photography was scanned using our Vexcel 5000 Ultrascan, precision aerial
roll film scanner.
Digital color prints were produced in house using out Xerox Docu-12 color laser printer.
